So, what is a saiti?
A Saiti is far more than a song; it is a sacred chant passed through the Yawanawá people for generations. Imagine standing in the heart of the Amazon, surrounded by towering trees, as a Yawanawá elder begins to sing. The chant, ancient and alive, vibrates through the forest, awakening something deep inside you—a connection to the Spirit of the Forest.
Saitis don’t translate into simple words; their essence lies in the vibrations they carry. Each time they’re sung, they plant seeds of wisdom, healing, and transformation within your heart. You may not always understand the meaning, but the chant finds you where you are, offering exactly what your spirit needs in that moment.
Traditionally, these powerful songs were passed down orally during spiritual diets, deep periods of study where students are initiated into Yawanawá spirituality. The chants must be learned with precision and dedication, ensuring that each sacred word carries the full power of the generations before.
One story speaks of a Yawanawá leader who, during a dieta, received a saiti that brought clarity and courage to his people during a time of adversity. The chant carried such force that it became a tool for the tribe’s resilience, connecting them even more deeply to the spiritual world and the life-giving essence of the forest.
Today, you are invited to step into this tradition. Though once reserved for in-person teachings, the opportunity now opens for you to learn these sacred chants and carry them in your heart. Through this immersion, you’ll receive the honor of experiencing the Saitis in their purest form, empowering your voice and spirit in ways that extend far beyond the virtual circle.

Our Guides
Keneihu Yawanawa and Shawma Yawanawa are two deeply respected leaders from the Yawanawá people. Keneihu, the eldest daughter of the esteemed chief of Mutum Village Matsini Yawanawa, carries the strength of Yawanawá women with grace and responsibility. Her deep spiritual study and remarkable musical gifts are a reflection of the legacy she upholds. Shawma, son of Chief Nixiwaka Biraci and prominent leader of the Yawanawa, embodies the strong masculine force of his people, deeply connected to Yawanawá ancestral wisdom.
Together, Keneihu and Shawma have represented their people in ceremonies and teachings around the world, bringing the sacred chants and traditions of their ancestors to a broader audience.
As your guides, they offer not only their profound understanding of Yawanawá spirituality, but also their hearts and voices, inviting you into an experience of deep connection with the Earth and the spirit of the forest. Their teachings are not just lessons—they are transmissions of ancestral power, an invitation to walk in harmony with the sacred knowledge passed down through generations.
The Yawanawa People
The Yawanawa people live along the banks of the Gregorio River, in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon. They are the guardians of 200,000 hectares of Amazonian rainforest, of which about 95% is kept intact. In the most biodiverse biome on the planet, their ancestors developed a vast knowledge of the healing plants of the forest and a cosmovision of great spiritual wisdom.
The first contact and initial conflicts between the Yawanawa people and non-indigenous reduced their population to less than 100 people. Almost leading their knowledge and culture to an end. For decades the missionaries invaded their lands and tried to forbid Yawanawa language, rituals and practices. In the 1980s, they fought for the recognition of their territory and started to reclaim their powerful ancestral legacy.
Under the guidance and teachings of the spiritual leaders Pajé Tata and Yawarani, the last living elders and medicine men of their people, the Yawanawa have been on a profound journey of cultural and spiritual revival. Their sacred rituals, prayers, songs and art are now celebrated all year round. The new generations carry their identity with pride and are committed to the continuation of the legacy of their ancestors.
In the last decade the Yawanawa youth introduced instruments such as guitars, flutes and drums into their traditional ceremonies and prayers, and an exceptional musical culture has been rising from deep in the Amazon rainforest. Combined with their powerful voices, Yawanawa music is now known around the world and the new generation of Yawanawa leaders travel the world to share the message of the forest through their ancestral prayers, sacred medicines and phenomenal musicality.
